Laura Orgué, cross-country skier, retires


Laura Orgué, 28 years old, has informed the president of the RFEDI, May Peus, of her decision to quit top-level cross-country ski after participating on the 22nd of March at the Marxa Beret. The Olympic cross-country skier will compete Friday and Saturday in the Spanish Championship of Linza. After these two events, she will finish her career.

The best Spanish cross-country skier of all times explained that she had been thinking of retiring after Sochi’ 14 but, after finishing 10th in the 30 km of the Olympic Games, she and her technical personnel decided to continue her sport career.

She started competing in 2006 and since then has taken part in 65 World Cup trials.
Regarding the European Cup, Oregué took part in 81 races and obtained 48 top-ten places with one victory in the 10 km pursuit at Rogla (SLO) another one on the 5 km C at Schipario (ITA) and a third place in the 1o km C at the French station of Chamonix.

In her farewell, Laura had some words for the young cross-country sportsmen and sportswomen when she said “ Cross-country ski in Spain, with dedication, has a future and it is not an unattainable goal to reach a World Cup and nobody should stop believing in cross-country skiing in this country”

From the 18th of February till the 1st of March, Sweden holds one of the most looked forward events of the season. During the World Championship at Falun, speed, distance, classical, free style and relay tests will be held.

Laura Orgué, after taking part in the World Cupa at Öestersund, in the 10 km Free competition, where he reached the 58th place, will take part in this competition.

Imanol Rojo, has participated in a World series (Val di Femme’13) en the Olympic Games (Sochi’14). His last Cross-country competition was at the Universiada Granada 2015.

Laura Orgué and Diego Ruiz Spanish champions Cross-Country Skiing at Beret

The Aragon Ski Station of Baqueira Beret held last Saturday the Cross-Country National Championship. This competition was part of the 36th edition of the Marxa Beret (30th-January to 1st-February 2015).

Laura Orgué was the winner of Women group and 12th in the general classification. In the 30 Km. the Catalan skier from the RFEDI score a time of 2:02:53, followed by Mónica Saez (Aragon Fed.) with 2:07:09 and Maialen López (Basc Fed.) 2:08:00.

In the Men group the winner was Diego Ruiz (Aragon) and also winner of the general classification with a time of 1:46:12 followed by Pedro Quintana 1:52:44 and Roberto Piqueras 1:53:28.

Laura Orgué 33rd place in the World Cup of Skiathlon


The Catalan cross-country skier took part in two trials on the 23rd and the 25th of January of the FIS World Cup in Rybinsk (Russia). The one of Friday the 23rd, 10 Kmt skating, was extremely cold, a fact that affected negatively the cross-country skier “I know my body blocks and my performance fall with cold weather”. She finished 46th.

On Sunday the 25th the situation was very different and the skier, who participated on Skiathlon, finished on the 33rd position.

Laura Orgué finished 28th of the general classification. Orgué has shown her evolution, along the competition’s trials, and in the last stage of 9 Km. Pursuit she obtained her best score of Ski Tour, an 8th place that gives her a good aftertaste of the competition.

The Tour took place and the German station of Oberstdorf, the Swiss station of Val Mustair and also at the Italians’ Toblach and Val di Fiemme.

The Norwegians Marit Bjoergen, Therese Johaug and Heidi Weng were the winners of this edition of the Ski Tour World Cup.
